World of Genomics

 

The World of Genomics is an interactive exhibit with hands-on activities for all ages, hosted by regional science museums and other large-scale venues. The World of Genomics has six interactive learning stations staffed by IGB researchers, and features hands-on learning with state-of-the-art microscopy, robotics, activities and artifacts. These exhibits showcase the breadth and depth of IGB research in creative and engaging ways, encouraging active participation by attendees.

Field Museum, Chicago, IL

IGB's first World of Genomics brought the full scope of our research in health, technology, and the environment to members and attendees of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.Over 10,000 visitors engaged with the World of Genomics at the Field Museum over the course of three days in May 2017.

St. Louis Science Center, St. Louis, MO

The World of Genomics was showcased for three days at the St. Louis Science Center in October 2018. The St. Louis Science Center, ranked as one of America’s most visited museums by Forbes Traveler Magazine, has long served as a destination for all ages with an interest in learning about science and technology; more than 6,500 visitors attended.

NAS Building, Washington DC

The IGB partnered with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to present Family Science Day at the NAS Building: DecisionTown in the World of Genomics, combining our largest outreach event World of Genomics with NASEM's engaging DecisionTown interactive public experience. As many as 3,000 visitors attended this event in a single day in April 2019.

Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL

For two days in October of 2024 the World of Genomics: Discover Everyday DNA was held at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The exhibit reached over 5000 attendees at six redesigned interactive stations; Introduction to Genomics, Food and Fuel, Science and Society, Health and Humanity, Cybernetic Cells, and DNA to Drugs.
