21: Other Emergencies at the IGB

Shelter-in-place

There may be emergencies that arise that do not afford individuals the opportunity to evacuate.  During these types of emergency situations, sheltering-in-place may be necessary.  Sheltering-in-place means to stay inside a known, safe area to avoid adverse conditions in an exterior environment. If an incident occurs that requires you to shelter in place you should do the following

  • Find a place of safety and stay there until it is safe to come out.
  • lock the door(s) or barricade the ingress/egress point(s)
  • Cover the windows
  • Silence communication devices
  • Remain quiet, unless making noise would be beneficial to your safety (i.e. rescue or recovery).
  • Do not come out until you are absolutely sure it is safe to do so.
