Outreach & Public Engagement

The IGB’s Art of Science program is a celebration of common ground between science and art. Each exhibit comprises images from IGB’s research portfolio, enhanced to highlight the beauty and fascination encountered daily in scientific endeavors.

The Art of Science includes subjects from the microscopic to the holistic, from the physical to the abstract. AoS is one of our first outreach initiative to relate science to the broader public in a relevant and beautiful way. In 2011, we kicked off our very first Art of Science exhibit, and  have hosted an exhibit open to the public every year.

Champaign businessman Doug Nelson, President of BodyWork Associates, first proposed the idea that became Art of Science, and his continued efforts to support the exhibit made its realization possible. The IGB is also grateful to James Barham of Barham Benefit Group and [co][lab] founder Matt Cho for hosting the annual exhibit, and to the IGB Core Facilities for providing stunning research images to create these works from.
