29: Local Ventilation

Canopy hoods are installed above some equipment and local vent ports are provided in the open labs at the IGB for research use.

Different from air supplies, air exhaust systems do not draw air effectively from any distances. As an example, air heading towards a two-inch diameter exhaust duct two inches away from the opening, is only traveling at 1/13th of the velocity of the air at the opening.

To be effective, any local exhaust ventilation must be close to that which is to be exhausted.
